The Year Is Almost Over!

 2016 is coming to an end as 2017 approaches. Soon term 4 will be all over. We are all anxious about the new beginning.Year 8s will become Year 9s and their new future will begin.

  Classes will be soon cleaned up and form a new layout. As the year is nearly over Mrs Buchanan will be leaving our school and finding more opportunities at another school. We are dearly sad she is leaving and hope her new school treats her right.

  Our prize giving and upcoming  important events are coming and we are all practising our Cultural groups. This year it will be different because we are having them on the same day as our Prize giving. Hope the day goes smoothly and we all enjoy ourselves.

No Longer Cold Winter Days ☔

  Cold days are gone and no more wishing warmers days are here. Now we can enjoy the beautiful Spring days where students are cheerful and happiness is in the air. As we have Sports every lunchtime to enjoy with our peers. 


More time outside and less time monitoring the junior rooms. Having the chance to do more activities and our upcoming Athletics just a day away the weather has helped a lot towards our practices. The warm weather filling the air as a cold breeze comes by doesn't it just make you feel happy.

  Maybe the weather will stay fine for our School Athletics day and for the many upcoming events to come.

School Time!

We have now come back from enjoying our 2 week holiday and it is now time to get stuck in.

Term 4 as we all know is the busiest term of them all and the Seniors have test to complete. New goals are set to accomplish and more and more work to complete which are preparing us for College.

Since coming back to school we are still figuring out the schedule to our normal day. Last term the senior block was fenced because of the Asbestos testing and we weren't allowed back in.

We are now back in our classes focusing on our learning and what we need to work on. I wonder what the term will bring to us and how well we will do in our tests.

School Shutdown!

Last week our school was being tested for asbestos, a deadly fiber if tampered with. We weren't allowed in our classes so the school was shutdown for a week. 

The next day there were 3 buses waiting for us so that we could be transferred to Tamaki Primary. They welcomed us with a powhiri performed by their School's Kapa Haka group. We were then informed on where we would be for the rest of the week. We didn't have the resources we usually worked with so we just had to go day by day. 

I can't wait to be back in our classroom and have all our resources back. 

Coming Soon !

Just last week we were told that we were going to create another short film. The subject was to do with our Inquiry Healthy Food Choices. 
We were separated into two groups. We then got started to plan out our concept. The group I was in compromised and we came up with the idea of explaining what not to eat and what foods to include. Our finish product ended up really well.  

Practice Makes Perfect !

Just recently the Year 7 and 8 students of Ruapotaka School went to the Softball Interschools at Dunkirk. We practiced and practiced as we all know practice makes perfect. Sadly we came tied 7th but all that matters is we tried our best. I really thought our team tried our best  we had some good games but our nerves got to us in some.

Accepting Our Roles As Lunch Monitors

Just recently some of Ruapotaka's Year 7 and 8 students have taken on the role as lunch and wet day monitors. Every second Monday our School has an assembly where our principal , Mrs Vickers reviews all the things that will be happening and our behavior .

Not long after some notices we were all called up to the front. One by one Mrs Vickers handed our badges out . We were also told the expectations of being a responsible monitor. It is a privilege to be a school monitor for my school. 

Learning Touch Rugby !

  For the past 3 weeks we have been doing touch training with Trevor. Straight after morning tea we had touch training with our coach for the last time. For the first 2 weeks he taught us how to plant, dummy half, pass, scoop and  tap.

On the last week (today) we got to play each other. Trevor told the girls to get to one side and the boys to get to the other. We then had to divide into 4 groups 2 teams of boys and 2 teams of girls. First the boys were up. They went on the field and played each other while us girls did some passing warm ups. It was then our turn so we went on the field. In the end we won .....woo!!                                                 

  Touch training taught me so much that I can now do when we play touch at lunchtime for sports. I can’t for next time we practice our touch skills.

Gardening Time

Today we have the opportunity to design our own garden outside of our class. The thing is that the plants we chose have to be able to survive in the sun also by being able to survive life. The Tamaki College people came to dig out our old plants. I can just imagine what it would be like to have a garden we made .....

Bonsai's are Japanese plants. They can grow up to 24 cm tall. Having these plants can make our garden look good but they also don't crowd our garden.

Hopefully this might happen and our garden will be better than before* .

"Miracle Baby Born Without A Brain"

2 year Aaron Murray has amazed doctors by celebrating his second birthday . The miracle baby was born with the tiniest part of his brain . Unlike organs which can be replaced doctors could not replace a missing brain. Doctors said there was no way Aaron was going to survive, but he has proven them wrong by celebrating his 2nd birthday while saying his first words "mummy" .

Halloween Costume

Halloween is here and everyone is preparing their costumes . Loading up on lollies for the one night where children can eat candy all night long . Here is a costume i would wear . I would wear this because it is pretty easy to make . I will wear a pumpkin that has no skin in it and wear a witch costume . 

President Obama Crashes Wedding !

In California a Bride and Groom were surprised one of their guest was the President Barrack Obama .  The Couples big day was held at Torrey Pines Golf Course where the president happened to be playing . The bride and groom didn't know that the president would be there. The president went to congratulate the newly weds and say hi . 

Birthday Madness

  During the weekend there were 3 birthdays but we celebrated them all together . The day started with  people showing up . Luckily we had decorated the house fit for 22 year old's .

   While my cousin was cooking our meat we headed out to get the cakes at the exquisite cheese cake shop . The choices were hard but we finally got Wild Strawberry , Caramel Glaze mud cake and Belgian double choc Mud cake ...mmmm......yum . 

   After that day finished I felt exhausted but happy as we celebrated yet another year of joy .

Testing To Accomplish Higher Standards

Having a task to look forward to at school is where you can push yourself to being better than before . A way for me to do this is by being tested , it gives me a chance to simply be me . It helps me understand difficult things you face everyday so that it  furthers me into what my future brings. Even though I may not get a higher standard i'm achieving more and more every test I get.

Blood Moon On The Horizon

A Blood moon known as a ‘tetrad’ will take place on September 28th, which is just the fourth lunar eclipse in two years.

The rare event will make the moon look up to 14% larger because it is as close to the earth than it will ever be in its elliptical orbit. However there is a chance that the eclipse won’t be visible from New Zealand and as always viewing always depends on weather conditions.

So why will the moon be a ‘blood’ red colour? When the earth eclipses a full moon the direct sunlight is blocked, but the sun's rays still light up the moon. However this light has already traveled through the Earth's atmosphere first, and hence causing the totally eclipsed moon to look red or brownish .

Rugby World Cup 2015

 

 For the last few weeks our class has been creating a presentation on the Rugby World Cup. We were divided into groups and I am with Quros, Tyla, Anavea and Suliasi. One thing I have learnt is that  the Webb Ellis Cup is named after a school boy named William Webb Ellis. Our presentation we have been doing is looking cool and I can't wait to see the finish. The Amazing Cindy In The House

  Today we went to Pt England and watch an act called Cindy in the House which was similar to the fairy tale Cinderella . We walked to Pt England where we got seated and had to wait for 10 minutes . We then got greeted by the principal .They acted, did funny things and danced. My favorite part was at the ball where they danced to a remix. I really enjoyed watching them act what that had rehearsed on for ages .

Wood Tech Creations

    Wood Tech Creations .

This year the year 7 and 8’s have been going toTamaki College every Wednesday for Technicraft . The subjects are Graphics , Wood and Food . The teacher for Graphics is Mr Pineda for Wood Mr Grundy and for food Mrs Tuipulotu .I have recently been in Wood Tech and I have finally finished it . The object I created was a jewelry stand/lip balm holder . First we had to plan out what we wanted to create .We then started creating our project . With the first wood we had to make a joint and we received more wood if needed . The design I created came out the way I wanted it and I really like it .

Myron Simpson

   

Myron Simpson was born on the 30 of July 1990 . He is a New Zealand cyclist who has represented New Zealand proud . In 2007 Myron received a silver medal in Mexico . The fastest speed he reached was 110 on his aerodynamic bike . Myron’s older brothers inspired him to cycle on his bike . He has started a business called Myron's Muesli .
